The Maxwell Mystery

A month ago, Ghislaine Maxwell was expected to emerge from hiding in order to cooperate with prosecutors in the Jeffrey Epstein case. Why has that changed?

Ghislaine Maxwell was last spotted at a Buckingham Palace event in November last year. She also reportedly met privately with Prince Andrew days before his awful-but-frank BBC interview. It was all an attempt to ‘normalize’ Ghislaine’s public image ahead of her anticipated cooperation with prosecutors from the SDNY investigating the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein, in which she is likely to be named a co-conspirator.

This week, new signals emerged from Maxwell’s camp indicating a shift in strategy. Maxwell’s going to ride things out, Rupert Murdoch’s Sun newspaper reported. She’s confident the dirt she has on America’s politicians is enough to secure her a permanent get-out-of-jail-free-card, Laura Goldman, Ghislaine’s friend, told the paper.

It was one of the first times any major paper had reported on Maxwell’s and Epstein’s espionage blackmail ring, which I first exposed in July and September last year.

MEDIA COVER-UP

It’s been months since I reported that Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein were agents for Israeli Military Intelligence for whom they were running a blackmail scheme targeting U.S. public figures.

When a source first revealed this story to me, I was skeptical and also concerned about putting out such a sensitive story under Narativ’s banner alone. While I looked for a second source, I offered the story to two major networks. At first they wanted the story and asked me hold it back from publication for over a month. Then they suddenly reversed course, dropping the story for “budget reasons”.

I couldn’t keep the story back from Narativ’s readers so I published it and discussed it on the Narativ Live podcast I host. The story circulated widely but for months no major media picked it up. By any measure this was a solid story with two first-hand witnesses on the record and multiple, unnamed but well-placed sources confirming the main details.

STUBBORN FACTS

After dodging the story for months, it’s become impossible for the media to look away any longer.

In December, my reporting was used as a basis for a book about the Maxwell-Epstein saga. “Dead Men Tell Know Tales” by Dylan Howard marketed itself almost exclusively on my story without attribution in any marketing material or preview press. Howard does cite me once inside the book itself.

I mention this because these events suggest this story and my reporting of it has been suppressed. It’s also made me the target of a social media attacks including from an associate of Rupert Murdoch’s. The strategy: discredit the writer so others can shape the narrative.

Instead of citing my named sources, the Daily Mail and Murdoch’s Page Six quote an “unnamed source” saying Maxwell and Epstein worked for many “foreign interests” and only had “powerful contacts” who were hiding her in Israel.

“Ghislaine is protected. She and Jeffrey were assets of sorts for multiple foreign governments. They would trade information about the powerful people caught in his net — caught at Epstein’s house,’ a unnamed source told Page Six.

“She is not in the US, she moves around. She is sometimes in the UK, but most often in other countries, such as Israel, where her powerful contacts have provided her with safe houses and protection,” Daily Mail quotes.

I wrote in September that other intelligence agencies were involved with Maxwell and Epstein. Epstein had a bond with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Maxwell’s father was a KGB asset long before he was one for Mossad. In fact there is a long history of collaboration between Israel’s secret services and Russia’s. Epstein also appears to have contracted out to Mi6 and the CIA at different times.

Sources tell me that while intelligence assets and information are often shared among allies, Maxwell and Epstein received their marching orders from Israeli Military Intelligence.

The story of why this story was covered up for months by New York’s media requires some serious soul-searching. The Maxwell-Epstein saga is much more than just a tawdry blackmail operation fit for the tabloids. In many ways, it’s the story of our America after the Second World War. It cannot and shouldn’t be ignored, white-washed or covered-up by anyone who claims to care about truth and America.

GHISLAINE’S CHANGE OF HEART

The question I’m wrestling with now is why the sudden change of heart by Maxwell?

Maxwell and Epstein ran a blackmail scheme targeting high profile public figures so there’s non doubt Maxwell had access to a lot of dirt but that’s been true for a long time. If the dirt was her insurance policy, why discuss cooperation at all?

Maxwell’s espionage connections is how Epstein escaped justice in 2005, according to former Trump Labor secretary and the state prosecutor Alex Acosta. Maxwell and all the other co-conspirators dodged prosecution as part of a reduced charge plea deal reached in 2008. That deal represents one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in US history as it allowed Epstein and Maxwell to continue their operation undeterred.

The mood has changed a lot since the aughts. When Epstein was again arrested last year, it was clear he wasn’t expecting any more favors.

He died in his jail cell weeks after his arrest.

AN OMINOUS ECHO

Jeffrey Epstein’s death reminds me of how Ghislaine’s father died. Robert Maxwell fell to his death in 1991 from his beloved yacht which he had named after his daughter. The murder is widely believed to have been the result of a Mossad hit, a means to protect the Israeli agency’s secrets.

Ever since the news of Epstein’s death broke, I’ve suspected that he too was killed on order from his Israeli handlers. It’s the most plausible scenario although there’s some credence to the speculation someone helped Epstein kill himself.

Ghislaine Maxwell knows the very real risk to her life if she is imprisoned which is likely what initiated discussions about cooperating with prosecutors. If she gets a deal she would need to admit what I publicly exposed, and what others were covering up. She and Epstein were Israeli agents. Cooperation agreements are predicated on truth after all, and she would have to reveal the very dirty things they duo did in the name of Israel.

Maxwell faces serious jail time if she’s indicted and convicted. If she is charged, she will also become one of the world’s most wanted women. Can Israel keep hiding her? I’m skeptical any amount of blackmail will derail justice now. If that were really her plan why would she blast it out to all the newspapers? It’s all untenable and does not augur well for Maxwell.

We may never find out everything Maxwell knew but if there is a silver lining to no cooperation deal it’s that her victims no longer need to fear Maxwell will continue to commit crimes with impunity.

There is one thing I have no doubts about, the Maxwell-Epstein saga is a multi-generational tragedy that strikes right at the heart of America. It is still playing out behind the news headlines today, as it has for decades. It’s an important focus for Narativ and I’m committed to continue exposing the details until all the truth is out.
